OnePlus 5T Vs OnePlus 5 : 5 Key differences

The Chinese smartphone manufacturer OnePlus has recently launched OnePlus 5T, the latest flagship killer with top-notch specifications and aggressive pricing. Though both the devices will have same price tag but OnePlus 5T will come with few upgrades like bezel-less display with 18:9 aspect ratio, dual camera setup, face unlock feature like in Apple iPhone X and new placement of fingerprint sensor.

Hence, here are the 5 things that has been changed from OnePlus 5 to OnePlus 5T.

1. 18:9 Display

The major difference between these two devices is the display. OnePlus 5T is the first smartphone by the company to feature the new bezel-less 6-inch bigger FHD+ AMOLED display with an 18:9 aspect ratio, 401ppi pixel density, 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection and fingerprint sensor at the rear panel whereas OnePlus 5 features 5.5 inch FHD AMOLED display with standard 16:9 aspect ratio, 401ppi pixel density. However, the biggest change is the lack of hardware capacitive buttons in 5T because of bezel-less huge display unlike other OnePlus phones.

2. Camera

Both the devices sport dual 16MP + 20MP rear camera with Sony IMX398 sensor and an aperture of f/1.7 for crystal clear shots. The telephoto lens has been eliminated from it which enables the camera to use the feed from both the sensors to enhance the low light shots. The new OnePlus 5T features 'Intelligent Pixel Technology' for capturing more light in low-light situations. On the front side, there is again a 16-megapixel Sony IMX371 sensor similar to that in OnePlus 5.

3. No optical zoom

Unlike OnePlus 5, 5T does not have an optical zoom due to the absence of telephoto lens. However, the company claims that with better software and configuration, the zoom performance will not be affected.

4. Face Unlock

In OnePlus 5T, the fingerprint sensor is embedded at the back whereas it is placed in the front in OnePlus 5. The company has introduced iPhone X like Face Unlock feature in OnePlus 5T which uses the front facing camera and a few software tricks to track and identify a user's face. Its Face ID recognition is quite fast and will not work for functionalities like payment through a third-party app for security but how much efficient it will be, is yet to be known but definitely it is going to provide better experience than other high-end Android phones from LG and Samsung.

5. New Oxygen OS Features

OnePlus 5T will run on Oxygen OS which will have exciting features such as DND (Do Not Disturb mode) that can be triggered while gaming, added support for dual Apps and a Switch app which will simplify the switching from other Android or iOS smartphones.

Both the variants (6GB/8GB RAM) of OnePlus 5T will be available in only one colour- midnight black whereas Oneplus 5 is available in two colour options.
