The Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi India is ready with another Redmi series smartphone Redmi 5A which is the successor of Redmi 4A. The company has been referring this phone as ‘Desh ka Smartphone’ as it a low-cost device for the masses. The phone which was earlier launched in China, will hit the Indian market on November 30. It will be available in multiple colour options- Champagne Gold, Cherry and Platinum Gray at a price tag of Rs 4,999 which is lower than that of its predecessor.
In terms of design, Redmi 5A looks similar to its previous generation having dimensions of 140.4 x 70.1 x 8.35 mm and 137gms weight but has a metal body instead of polycarbonate. Redmi 5A features a 5-inch HD display with 1280x720 pixels resolution and 296 ppi pixel density. It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 quad-core chipset clocked at 1.4GHz coupled with 2GB RAM and Adreno 308 GPU. It also comes with 16Gb onboard storage which can be expanded upto 128GB via a microSD card. The phone supports a hybrid SIM slot which enables the user to either use dual SIM functionality (two nano SIM cards) or a SIM card and a microSD card for extra storage.
In terms of camera, Redmi 5A is equipped with 13MP rear camera with f/2.2 aperture and LED flash. The other camera features include panorama mode, burst mode, HDR mode,
facial recognition and realtime filters. For selfies, it sports a 5MP front snapper with ƒ/2.0 aperture which can also shoot both 1080p videos and 720p videos at 30 fps. The device runs on company's MIUI 9 software with Android Nougat operating system. It is packed by a 3000 mAH battery which can provide uninterrupted usage for more than a day. On the connectivity front, the sensors included are Infrared, Acceleration sensor, distance sensor, and Ambient light sensor.
Xiaomi Redmi 5A Vs Redmi 4A ?
Xiaomi Redmi 5A is a minor upgrade to Redmi 4A. In terms of design, Redmi 5A has more rounded corners and a rear-mounted speaker grill. Both the phones have same processor with the same amount of RAM and storage, the same display size and camera specifications. Like its predecessor, Redmi 5A has also skipped fingerprint sensor. However, there are slight differences nonetheless.
Redmi 5A will be running upgraded Android Nougat based MIUI 9 operating system.
Redmi 5A will have a wider aperture lens for selfie camera compared to Redmi 4A ( i.e, f/2.0 vs f/2.2).
